Sensor and Proportional Valve Architecture

The measurement assembly uses the Bürkert InlineChipDigital ALU sensor, which performs direct thermal mass flow detection inside the gas stream. The instrument is calibrated on air with medium-specific conversion parameters loaded for oxygen. With a dynamic turndown range of 1:50, the controller maintains continuous regulation down to 0.2 Nm³/h.

Actuation is driven by an integrated Type 2875 direct-acting proportional valve. The valve incorporates a 49 x 49 mm electromagnetic coil consuming 16 W, operating across a 3.0 mm orifice. This configuration is built specifically as a version for high difference pressure, supporting up to 10 bar maximum valve pressure and a maximum continuous operating pressure of 5 bar.

Electrical and Fieldbus Integration

BURKERT 20014232 operates from a regulated 24 V DC supply. Nominal power consumption is 18.5 W under steady operating conditions, with a typical consumption rating of 20 W and an operational limit of 34.5 W on UL-approved installations. Process data exchange, setpoint provision, and diagnostic reporting are transmitted via PROFIBUS DP.

UL Approval and Configuration Card

Devices bearing UL approval require compliance with UL power ratings up to 34.5 W. The controller includes a dedicated memory card for retaining operating parameters, calibration factors, and device configuration during replacement or maintenance cycles.

Installation and Commissioning Sequence

The device must be installed in a horizontal orientation to conform to the factory calibration baseline. Prior to connecting fluid lines, verify that all piping is clean and free of particulate matter. G 1/2 threaded ports connect the instrument directly into the oxygen process line.

Start-up Procedure Sequence

When putting the controller into operation or restarting following an interruption, execute tasks strictly in the following sequence:

  1. Apply electrical supply voltage (24 V DC) or pneumatic supply first.
  2. Charge the device with the process medium (O2) in a gradual, controlled manner.

Safety Instructions and Operational Limits

Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) and Electrical Safety

The device contains electronic assemblies sensitive to electrostatic discharge. Adhere to EN 61340-5-1 handling procedures during installation and service. Never touch exposed electronic components while supply voltage is active. Disconnect and lock out power before performing mechanical or wiring work.

Pressurized Medium and Thermal Hazards

Pressurized media present serious injury risks upon uncontrolled release. De-energize system pressure, vent piping, and confirm zero pressure before loosening fittings. Because fast-switching proportional coils can generate hot exterior surfaces, wear appropriate personal protective equipment and maintain clear separation from flammable materials, especially in oxygen-enriched operational zones.
